Painting, subtraction strip board, sc sch dictation exercises and compilation of first dictionary of spelling difficulties

Yesterday evening they had great fun in the garden on our red tractor and the one of our neighbour.
Ieri sera si sono divertiti come dei matti a correre per il giardino con il loro trattore rosso e quello del nostro vicino.

She loved experimenting making green with yellow and blue and trying to make colours darker and lighter using white.
Le e' piaciuto molto sperimentare il colore facendo il verde con il giallo e il blu e inscurendo e schiarendo i colori con il bianco.

Subtraction strip board here we are doing 16-8= 8 (the plan is to go through double numbers first like with additions, and then to work with subtractions with odd numbers).
Tavola delle sottrazioni qui si faceva 16-8 =8, facciamo prima i numeri doppi come abbiamo fatto per le addizioni e poi faremo le sottrazioni dispari.

Eccoci al lavoro con le difficolta' ortografiche sc e sch. 

We started doing a dictation and before that, we wanted to write the date on the notebook, so we have been working on thousands, hundreds, tens, and units. The box with yellow beads should be double, but I don't have one at the moment.
Stavamo per iniziare il dettato e mentre si scriveva la data ci siamo soffermati sulle migliaia, centinaia, decine ed unita'. La scatola delle migliaia qui sotto dovrebbe essere doppia ovviamente ma ne avevo solo una.

Fatto il dettato con divertimento abbiamo iniziato il nostro dizionario delle difficolta' ortografiche. Ogni volta che ne incontriamo una, la registriamo nel nostro schedario (gli e' piaciuto molto) cosi' ogni volta che legge o scrive lo puo' consultare o aggiornare.
Once dictation was finished (he enjoys it a lot) we started our card holder dictionary of italian spelling difficulties. Every time we find a difficult word with a difficult sound or doubles we register it in the card holder, (he loved the concept and the card holder) and every time he finds a spelling challenge or a reading one he can look it up or update it.

After lunch my little one wanted to use these beautiful colours again, so I set it up for her. She decided to practice her "A" and to colour one in. I was ever so pleased. I was also pleased because a famous italian Montessori tutor told me that writing letters whilst painting is a great exercise for the hand and one they invite children to do at the Casa dei bambini, as painting is really important for the development of the use of the hand. So, the fact she did it by herself is even better :)
Dopo pranzo la piccola mi ha chiesto di dipingere di nuovo e le ho preparato i colori. Ha deciso di scrivere la A e di colorarla. Mi ha fatto molto piacere, anche perche' una bravissima Tutor Montessori mi aveva raccontato che e' un esercizio che le maestre fanno fare e che dipingere e' importantissimo per la scrittura. Il fatto che lo abbia fatto spontaneamente ha ancora piu' valore.

In the meantime our bread was ready for the oven after three hours of natural raising, so my eldest kneaded the dough s so it could go in the oven.  I omitted to say he also weighed and poured all the ingredients in the Kitchen Aid, counting in the hundreds and doing subtractions with these big numbers with my help. He did this earlier this morning.
Nel frattempo il pane era lievitato, tre ore di lievitazione naturale, cosi' il mio grande ha reimpastato il pane per metterlo in forno a cuocere. Ho dimenticato di menzionare che la mattina lo aveva impastato lui nel Kitchen Aid, pesando tutti gli ingredienti nell'ordine delle centinaia e facendo sottrazioni con il mio aiuto se versava troppa farina.

Questo pomeriggio siamo andati a pulire il nostro prezioso grano di varieta' antica con cui faremo il pane. Lo abbiamo comperato da una fattoria biologica e ovviamente non era stato pulito, quindi ora fare il pane sara' molto piu' veloce e finalmente potremo goderci questo grano cosi' ricco di energia e dal sapore incredibile.

This afternoon we went to have our wheat cleaned. It is a special ancient organic variety bought from a farm, so it was really full of everything, even if organic, soil, flowers, insects, you name it. Now it is all clean and we will be able to enjoy its lovely taste and the energy it gives you. (might upload pictures later).

Tonight in bed my eldest one told me he had read our animal book in Italian and found a few sections he wanted to read more carefully. I nearly fainted. For a few days I had been offering him the book, which talks about his favourite subjects and for the first time he read it by himself sometimes today, something clicked, he is now in, he said he loved reading and he wants to read more, Yiiiipppieeeeee!
Stasera il mio grande mi ha detto che oggi aveva letto una parte del libro sugli animali in Italiano e che aveva trovato alcune sezioni che voleva approfondire. Sono quasi svenuta. Per alcuni giorni gli avevo offerto il libro sapendo che rappresentava i suoi interessi e per la prima volta lo ha letto da solo in qualche momento di oggi che mi e' sfuggito, qualcosa e' scattato, ormai e' fatta, ha detto che gli piace molto leggere e vuole leggere ancora quel libro, evviva!!!!
